Terms of Use — Smart Steps Reading Last updated: August 2026
Welcome to Smart Steps Reading! These terms describe the agreement between you and Smart Steps Reading LLC (“Smart Steps,” “we,” “us”) when you use our website, apps, and services. By subscribing or using our services, you agree to these terms.
1. What we provide. Smart Steps Reading offers web-based reading instruction apps for children, plus optional services in which a teacher reviews your child’s reading recordings (“Daily Listening”) and provides live online lessons (“Live Tutoring”). Our apps run in a web browser; no installation is required.
2. Accounts are for parents. Subscriptions are purchased and held by a parent or legal guardian, for use by children in their household. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for supervising your child’s use of the services as you judge appropriate.
3. Billing. Subscriptions are billed monthly (or annually, for annual plans) through our payment processor, Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details. Prices are shown at checkout. Where we are required to collect sales tax, it is added at checkout.
4. Free trials. Some plans include a free trial. If you cancel before the trial ends, you will not be charged.
5. Canceling. You may cancel anytime. Your access continues through the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods; however, if something has gone wrong on our end, contact us and we will make it right.
6. Changing plans. You may move between plans at any time. Changes normally take effect at your next billing date; contact us for immediate upgrades.
7. Live sessions. Live tutoring sessions follow our published schedule, with major holidays off. Sessions we cancel are always rescheduled. Sessions you cancel with at least 24 hours’ notice will be rescheduled that week where possible; sessions missed without notice cannot always be made up.
8. Reading recordings. Our apps invite children to record themselves reading as part of the lessons. On Daily Listening and tutoring plans, these recordings are shared with your child’s teacher for review. By subscribing to those plans, you consent to this sharing. 9. Our content. All lessons, stories, recordings, curricula, and materials in the Smart Steps apps are owned by Smart Steps Reading LLC and protected by copyright. Your subscription gives your household a personal, non-transferable license to use them. You may not copy, redistribute, resell, or use our materials to build a competing product. Classroom or institutional use requires a separate agreement — contact us.
10. Acceptable use. You agree not to misuse the services, interfere with their operation, attempt to access other families’ data, or share your access links publicly.
11. Educational service, not a guarantee. We are proud of our method and stand behind it, but every child is different. We make no guarantee of specific educational outcomes, reading levels, or timelines. Our services are educational in nature and are not a substitute for professional evaluation or therapy where those are needed.
12. Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Smart Steps Reading LLC’s total liability for any claim arising from the services is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages.
13. Changes. We may update these terms as the business grows. If we make material changes, we will post the updated terms here and update the date above. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
14. Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas.
